Carnival in Verin, Ourense-Galicia (Spain), known regionally as Entroido (entrance). The main character of the Carnival is the “Cigarrón” (a masked figure who dress in colorful clothes with cowbells around their waist who run through the city streets). The costume weights 25kgs and the mask is made of wood. It is not clear the origin about this ancestral Carnival but it could be from archaic root and then mixtures in Roman times with others of social kind that endure till The Middle Age, getting by then a Cristian way. Both manifestations together, pagan and Cristian, make the Carnival as we know it nowadays.
